Authorities in Walker County are investigating the killings of two young cows on a farm this week, the Northwest Georgia News reported.

Both calves were shot, Sheriff Steve Wilson said. One had its front legs and shoulders sawed off.

“It was a callous and malicious act,” Wilson said. “Pure meanness."

The calves were 14 to 15 months old, weighed about 800 pounds, and were being raised to be sent to a slaughterhouse, according to the report.

Wesley Butler, who owns the North Georgia farm, said he saw a man driving a dull green, older model small car repeatedly by his farm within days of the killings, the newspaper reported. Butler said he had never seen the car before.

The sheriff said the driver is a person of interest in the case, according to the report.
