State troopers are investigating a head-on collision that left a Covington woman dead Friday night in Newton County.

The fatal crash happened shortly after 10 p.m. when two women driving the opposite direction collided on Flat Shoals Road, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

Kimberly Mann, 51, was traveling east in a Dodge Charger when she collided with a Chevrolet Malibu driven by Shavonta Cole, also of Covington. The impact of the crash caused Cole’s car to overturn, according to a GSP report.

Mann died of injuries sustained in the wreck, authorities said. Cole, 28, survived the collision, but her condition wasn’t immediately available. She was taken to Atlanta Medical Center.

The investigation into which driver caused the crash is ongoing, authorities said Tuesday.
