Cops: Woodstock man faces felonies after church break-in, vandalism

A Woodstock man faces several charges after being accused of breaking into a church and vandalizing several walls, pictures and pieces of furniture.

Carl Allen Perkins, 20, broke into the New Home Baptist Church off Ga. 92 in Woodstock about 11 a.m. Friday, the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

Perkins is accused of writing several messages inside the church. According to photos provided by the sheriff’s office, the messages included comments about race and religion.

“Tell people the truth,” one message said. “No need to keep people believing in sumthing (sic) that you haven’t seen for yourself!!”

Other messages claimed thatm “White people are sub-human” and, “Y’all are going to parish (sic) real soon.” A picture of the “The Last Supper” was also defaced.

Deputies said they spotted Perkins inside the church, leading to a brief chase. Authorities later found him near Wiley Parc Circle, where he was arrested, the release said.

He was charged with burglary, vandalism of a place of worship, second-degree criminal damage to property and obstruction. Other information on his custody was not immediately available.
