A woman faces four felonies in Cobb County after being accused of hitting two children with a belt and forcing them into an ice bath as a form of punishment.

Meiri Josari Lara-Oliva, 23, was arrested last Wednesday after the domestic-related incident at the Liberty Pointe Apartments, according to a Marietta police arrest warrant.

About 11 p.m., Lara-Oliva is accused of hitting one child in the face with a belt, while striking another on the back, the warrant said. The incident left the children with visible marks and bruising.

The suspect then forced them to enter and stay in an ice bath, the warrant said. According to one charge, she allegedly submerged one of the children in the bath “with intent to murder.”

While the incident took place, a third child witnessed the abuse, the warrant said.

Lara-Oliva was charged with two counts of first-degree child cruelty and one count of aggravated assault, aggravated battery and third-degree child cruelty, according to Cobb County jail records.

The woman, who was born in Honduras, was granted a $55,220 bond but remains in jail due to a hold from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, jail records show.
