A woman accused of stealing items from her neighbor’s home was allegedly found hiding under her bed while police investigated.

Brookhaven police were called Wednesday to a home on Winding Lane, where a resident reported that several items had been stolen, Major Brandon Gurley said today.

During the investigation, officers searched nearby homes, including the one next door, Gurley said in an emailed statement.

“They located the back door of the house next to the incident scene open,” Gurley said. “They made several announcements to see if anyone was inside, but they did not receive an answer.”

Inside the home, police found items matching the descriptions of those reported stolen just minutes earlier and items reported missing the previous day from another neighbor’s car. They also found a resident of the home, Rebecca Wyche Turner, hiding under the bed, Gurley said.

Turner, 40, was arrested and charged with four counts of theft by receiving, Gurley said. She was booked into the DeKalb County jail.
