Cops search for man who broke into Clayton County home, sexually assaulted woman

Authorities are searching for a man who broke into a Clayton County apartment Monday and sexually assaulted a woman.

The incident happened at the Park at Tara Apartments off Tara Road in unincorporated Jonesboro, Clayton County police said in a news release. The victim told police she was able to push her attacker away and scream until her roommate heard her.

Her roommate then tried to fight off the suspect, who left through the apartment’s rear sliding door, the release said. Both the victim and her roommate were hurt, but their injuries are non-life-threatening.

Officers searched the area but were unable to find the man. The release said there is no evidence linking this suspect to the county's serial rapist, who has been tied to five rapes between July 2015 and May 2017.
