Cops: Man pulled over for violating ‘hands free’ law caught with meth, pot

A man was pulled over by Gainesville police for allegedly violating the new “hands free driving” law. Police said they found more than just a phone in the vehicle.

Steven Lawless, 25, was arrested on drug and weapons charges after the traffic stop, Gainesville police said in a Facebook post.

Police said he had 45.5 grams of suspected methamphetamine and 98 grams of suspected synthetic marijuana, as well as a gun.

A second person, Lawrence Gray, was also arrested on an unrelated warrant.

Lawless faces charges of trafficking methamphetamine, possession of synthetic cannabinoid with intent to distribute, possession of methamphetamine, possession of synthetic cannabinoid, possession of drug-related objects and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, according to Hall County Jail records.

Lawless and Gray remain in jail without bond, jail records show.
