The man found dead in his car near a Gwinnett County interstate Wednesday afternoon had been missing for days, police said.

Investigators believe he was killed in a traffic accident, and foul play is not suspected.

Gwinnett County police Cpl. Michele Pihera said a tow truck driver noticed the wrecked Ford Explorer in an embankment while driving along I-985 northbound near Buford. The driver looped back to the scene — near Mile Marker 1 between I-85 and Ga. 20 — and found the body of 30-year-old Lorenzo Alcaras-Cortez inside.

Police arrived on scene around 12:30 p.m.

Pihera said investigators believe Alcaras-Cortez was killed after driving off the interstate and hitting “several” trees. It was not clear what caused the crash or when it occurred, but Pihera said Alcaras-Cortez’s wife filed a missing persons report over the weekend “when she was unable to make contact with him.”
