Officials chased a man going at least 100 mph on southbound I-85 in Gwinnett County after he drove away from a traffic stop Friday afternoon.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, Salas Arangure Salvador of Lithia Springs was about to be handcuffed when he jumped into his blue Nissan Sentra and drove at speeds between 100 mph and 115 mph.

The chase began about 2 p.m. near Carnesville, officials said. It ended at Pleasant Hill Road when a GSP trooper performed the PIT maneuver.

Salvador was taken into custody by Franklin County sheriff’s deputies, who initiated the chase.

Officials told Channel 2 Action News the suspect was initially being arrested for driving on a suspended license.

He is in the Franklin County jail on charges of fleeing, giving false name, reckless driving and marijuana possession. Other charges are pending in other jurisdictions.

There were no injuries in the chase.
