A man who allegedly made off with beer, cigarettes and cash after pointing a gun at a Peachtree Corners convenience store clerk is in custody in northeast Georgia, Gwinnett police said Wednesday.

Shortly after authorities released surveillance footage of the man and asked the public to help identify him, Gwinnett detectives received a tip that helped them identify the suspect as Nicholas Shaw, 26, of Lawrenceville.

Shaw, police learned, was already in jail in Oglethorpe County on multiple charges.

"After meeting with the suspect,” Cpl. Michele Pihera said, “the lead detective was able to tie” Shaw to a total of three crimes in metro Atlanta.

A vehicle was stolen June 25 from Denise Court in Stone Mountain, one day before the armed robbery at the Peachtree Corners Texaco, Pihera said. Three days later, on June 29, police said Shaw committed another armed robbery, this time at a Marathon gas station on Harmony Grove Road in Lilburn.

Gwinnett authorities have taken out warrants on a number of charges, including armed robbery, robbery by intimidation, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm and entering auto.

"Shaw will eventually be booked into the Gwinnett County Jail once he is released from his other charges,” Pihera said.
