Police on Thursday identified the man killed in a weekend home invasion in Clayton County.

Dwayne Straughter is accused of shooting 22-year-old Kennedy Torrey Jr. and an unidentified person in an apartment at the 3100 block of Mount Zion Road during the Saturday home invasion and robbery, authorities said. He was later arrested in Florida.

Officers who responded to the scene at 9:45 p.m. found Torrey with a gunshot wound to the head and the second victim with gunshot wounds to the leg and stomach, Clayton County police said Thursday in a news release.

Both were taken to local hospitals. Torrey was pronounced dead. The condition of the second victim was not released.

Authorities said they believe Straughter knew the victims.

According to Clayton County’s fugitive squad, Straughter was arrested in Madison County, Fla., after a botched home invasion there in which he was overpowered by his intended victims and held for police.

Authorities say he will be extradited back to Georgia to face charges here.
