Authorities confirmed Thursday a Forsyth County court officer was fired in late December after he was accused of inappropriately accessing and leaking confidential information about a death investigation.

Jose Barrera was a pretrial services employee at the courthouse, Channel 2 Action News reported.

The sheriff’s office said he was fired after a woman told deputies he accessed her files and leaked them to five people, Channel 2 reported. It’s unclear whether the information was shared with his coworkers or members of the public.

Records obtained by the news channel show Barrera was a witness in the woman’s case.

He was initially put on administrative leave in December before being fired because of a loss of confidence in him, Channel 2 reported.
