A Cobb County father drove his 5-year-old son to the county’s DFACS office, gave the boy a note and told him to go the front door, according to Marietta police.

“Hi, my name is La’Monte Grant and my mother said she doesn’t want me anymore!!!” the note said.

The boy did what he was told and was found by county employees, who tried unsuccessfully to reach the boy’s father, Monte Tnarg Grant, his arrest warrant says. The boy told police it was his father who dropped him off on June 8 at 11:30 a.m.

A Marietta officer was able to speak with the boy’s mother, who said Grant had full custody of her son.

The following day, an arrest warrant was issued for Grant, who was charged with child abandonment, a misdemeanor. He was booked into the Cobb jail and released on $5,000 bond.

The boy was placed in protective custody, police said Wednesday.
