A high-speed chase in Troup County ended with an alleged drug trafficker in handcuffs and about 3.5 ounces of ecstasy off the streets, authorities said.

Dequente Markese Colston, 24, faces nine charges, including three felonies, after the Tuesday night incident, the Troup County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

Just after 7:15 p.m., a deputy attempted to pull over Colston for driving about 15 to 18 mph over the speed limit on I-185 South near mile marker 46, the release said. However, Colston is accused of speeding away from the deputy.

The deputy followed him, with Colston eventually driving the wrong way on the interstate for several minutes, the release said. A PIT maneuver was later performed, ending the chase.

The ecstasy was found in the vehicle along with Colston’s expired driver’s license, the release said. In addition to six driving citations, he faces counts of fleeing police, aggravated assault and trafficking ecstasy, jail records show.

He remains in the Troup County Jail without bond.
