Most people in need of a ride would ask.
But in Jose Chilel-Fransisco’s case, police say he jumped in front of his neighbor’s car, hopped in and demanded a ride at gunpoint.
Cops found a “visibly intoxicated” Chilel-Fransisco, 29, on May 16 along Lowe Lane in Alpharetta with slurred speech and bloodshot and glassy eyes standing outside a home. He also had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, according to a police report.
Police say moments before they found him, Chilel-Fransisco jumped in front of his neighbor Noberto Rivera’s yellow Chevrolet Cobalt, walked to the passenger-side door, opened it and asked Rivera where he was going.
Rivera, 44, told him he was going to get a new cellphone, which Chilel-Fransisco took as an invitation and hopped inside the car, despite Rivera telling him to get out, according the report.
“As (Jose) was getting into the car, Noberto saw a black handgun that was concealed in (Jose’s) waistband,” Alpharetta officer R.A. Splawn wrote in the report. “He could tell (Jose) was drunk and told him to get out of the car.”
Chilel-Fransisco then pulled the gun on Rivera and pressed it against his ribs, police said. When Rivera threatened to call 911, Chilel-Fransisco got out and began to walk away.
“Noberto said he was in fear of his safety because he thought (Jose) was going to shoot him,” Splawn wrote.
Rivera told police he works with Chilel-Fransisco , but they were not friends nor had he ever given him a ride.
Chilel-Fransisco was taken to jail on charges of aggravated assault and carrying a pistol without a permit.
