Georgia deputies pulled over a man for an alleged stop-sign violation Tuesday.

But once Harris County deputies discovered he had a warrant for murder out of Chicago, the suspect sped off, leading them on a wrong-way interstate chase that ended with spike strips flattening his tires, Sheriff Mike Jolley told AJC.com.

The man, Marlon Darrell Giles, 33, drove south on I-185 toward Columbus before crossing the median and continuing to drive south against northbound traffic, Jolley said.

Deputies used spike strips to stop the vehicle and arrest Giles, Jolley said. A weapon was allegedly found in his vehicle.

No one was injured during the incident.

Giles remains in the Harris County Jail without bond. He faces charges of failure to obey a sign, attempting to elude an officer and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to an arrest report.

The Georgia State Patrol arrived after the chase ended to handle three accidents it said were caused by Giles.
