Two burglary suspects were arrested Saturday morning after their accomplices got scared and accidentally locked them inside a Duluth gas station, authorities said.

The incident occurred after four men broke into a Shell on Buford Highway overnight, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Shortly after two of the suspects entered the shop, a Duluth police car drove by, spooking their alleged accomplices who were waiting outside. Those two men sped off in the group’s getaway car, leaving their friends locked inside the store to fend for themselves.

“It’s kind of funny, though,” gas station manager Mohammed Murdhani told the news station. “I don’t think they knew what they were doing.”

The men locked inside the store had to smash windows to get out, but by then police were aware of the break-in. The suspects ran, but only made it about two blocks, authorities said.

The suspects made it about two blocks before they were discovered hiding in a dumpster, authorities said.

A business owner notified officers after he saw the men running up his stairs on surveillance video. Police and their K-9 surrounded a dumpster and arrested Leonunte Carson and Terry Price on burglary and obstruction charges, Channel 2 reported.

The search continues for the other two suspects.

Murdhani said he had to replace his front door and that there was some minor damage inside his shop, but he doesn’t think the burglary suspects made off with anything valuable.
