A man who returned to a DeKalb County pub early Friday despite orders to stay away was shot after an altercation inside the business.

But despite earlier police reports that the man died, he is in grave condition at Grady Memorial Hospital, DeKalb police Maj. Stephen Fore said.

Officers, responding to a call at 3 a.m. about a person shot, found a 43-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the chest at the Tucker Square Shopping Center.

The victim had earlier gotten into an altercation with another man at the Wooden Nickel Pub on Tucker Norcross Road.

That altercation spilled outside, into a nearby parking lot where the shooting occurred, police said. The suspect fled the scene. Police have not made an arrest.

Crime scene investigators were on the scene early Friday.

Officials worked to get surveillance video from neighboring businesses and to get an SUV parked directly outside a Little Caesars restaurant in the area towed before 6:20 a.m.

Police said they are hoping a witness may have information about the incident.
