After being accused of driving 126 mph on Ga. 400, an Atlanta man did what deputies asked of him and pulled over without creating a chase.

However, after he failed both a field sobriety and breathalyzer test, he stopped complying, deputies said.

Darrochino Cox, 27, ran from the traffic stop on an exit ramp to a parking lot in a high-end shopping center right off the freeway, the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. In the parking lot, a white Lexus “attempted to pick up Cox,” but the driver quickly gave up and fled the scene, crashing into a building during the process.

Cox was taken into custody minutes later. He’s now facing multiple felony charges.

The incident began Tuesday just before 11 p.m. when a deputy clocked Cox driving well above the speed limit on Ga. 400 North, the release said. Cox pulled over on the exit ramp near Peachtree Parkway and The Collection at Forsyth.

The sheriff’s office released dash camera and body camera video of the incident. After the deputy walks up to Cox’s driver-side window, the suspect asks what he did, and the deputy responds by pointedly yelling, “126 mph!”

Cox is asked to get out of the vehicle and then appears to fail both a field sobriety test and a breathalyzer test, according to the video. Another deputy had arrived by this point, and both attempt to put Cox in handcuffs.

However, Cox begins to beg not to go to jail, asking repeatedly to call his wife before taking off, the video shows.

He ran behind an Academy Sports located within The Collection, which is when a white Lexus is seen in the parking lot. The deputy, who was chasing Cox, noticed the vehicle and told dispatch that the suspect was about to get into it.

However, the driver of the Lexus appears to give up on getting Cox inside, speeding away and striking a building before leaving the area, according to the video.

Cox was charged with reckless driving, speeding, DUI, obstruction, failure to maintain lane and driving with an expired license, the release said. Deputies also checked his vehicle and found a felony amount of marijuana inside.

He was booked into the Forsyth County Jail, where he remains on a $37,350 bond.

Authorities are still searching for the white Lexus and its driver. Anyone with information is asked to contact investigators at 770-781-2222.
