An Athens man who had been out of jail on bond had his freedom revoked over the weekend after a violent domestic dispute, authorities said.

Christopher Lewis Poss, 36, was arrested Saturday on 10 charges, including four felonies, after he was accused of choking a woman and preventing her from calling 911, Athens police said. This is his second domestic-related arrest involving the same victim since last summer.

About 3:20 p.m. Saturday, officers were sent to a home off Tara Way and found the victim, a 39-year-old woman, according to a police incident report.

The woman told officers that Poss had choked her, kept her from calling 911 and dragged her into the house, the report said. She also said he held her against her will and released a dog from the home.

Poss fled the house before police arrived, but he later returned and was arrested on the litany of charges, police said.

His felony charges include counts of aggravated assault, kidnapping, false imprisonment and violation of bond. He also faces misdemeanor counts of obstruction, criminal trespass, simple battery and failure to keep domestic animals under control.

He had been out of jail on a $2,400 bond after another domestic-related arrest in July 2019, court records show. That incident led to Poss being charged with simple assault (family violence). No other information on that charge was immediately available.

One of the conditions of bond was that he not contact the 39-year-old woman or visit the Tara Way house, according to court records.

Poss remains in the Clarke County Jail without bond.
