An employee at a Cobb County Papa John’s was arrested after allegedly threatening to “shoot up” the restaurant during a dispute with his coworkers Sunday evening.
Deontray Maki, who worked at the South Cobb Drive location in Smyrna, allegedly fired a shot in the busy shopping center after being told by a manager to clock out and go home, according to his arrest warrant.
The 24-year-old was arrested at his Mableton apartment Wednesday and charged with terroristic threats or acts, Cobb jail records show.
Employees at the pizza joint told police Maki got into an argument with his manager about his colleagues’ work ethic, according to his arrest warrant. He reportedly complained to his boss that the other employees weren’t working hard enough, then got angry when he was told to leave.
Witnesses told officers he started screaming and cursing, and threatened to “shoot up the place” on his way out, according to the warrant. Two of the man’s coworkers told authorities Maki fired a single shot into the air as he drove away from the restaurant.
He was released from jail Thursday after posting an $11,220 bond records show.
