A construction worker died Tuesday afternoon after the boom lift he was operating fell and crushed him underneath a wheel, authorities said.

Officers found 55-year-old Dexter Walters gravely injured just before 3 p.m. in the 1300 block of Gun Club Road in northwest Atlanta, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses told police that Walters was operating a boom lift when it “suddenly appeared to have fallen to the ground,” police said in a news release. The man was then stuck under the wheel of the lift.

Police said Walters was in an Xfinity company vehicle. No other information on the incident was provided.

The investigation remains active.
