A Kennesaw woman was sentenced to 25 years, including 15 behind bars, for running over a man she’d recently met at Walmart, the Cobb County District Attorney said Wednesday.
Junmakia Racquel Henley, 47, was convicted of aggravated assault with a motor vehicle, aggravated battery and felony hit-and-run after a jury deliberated for 30 minutes, Cobb DA Vic Reynolds said.
On Feb. 29, 2016, Henley met the man in Walmart and he asked her to lunch, according to prosecutors. For several days, the man bought her gifts and took her out, but the romance was short-lived. The man asked Henley to leave his home, the DA’s office said.
Then on March 5, the man walked Henley to her car parked in his driveway. After Henley backed up, according to prosecutors, she accelerated, causing the man to land on the hood of her Toyota Camry. She again reversed and ran over the man, who had fallen to the driveway.
Henley left the scene while the man used his cellphone to call 911. He had two broken legs from the assault.
Henley initially denied she’d been at the man’s home and referred to him as “what’s his name,” the DA said. A prosecutor told the court her alibi wasn’t believable.
“If not her, then who?” the prosecutor asked.
After serving her prison time, Henley will serve the rest of her sentence on probation.
