A Cobb County woman is accused of keeping 13 malnourished female dogs in cages containing feces, according to police.

Investigators believe Shalanda Blake Vereen, 45, was breeding the dogs, her arrest warrant states. But the animals had limited shelter and had not received veterinary care or rabies vaccinations, according to police.

“Each dog appeared malnourished with its ribs showing, and what looked like being used for breeding purposes,” Vereen’s warrant states.

Cobb police identified the dogs as bulldogs, but one appeared to be a pit bull breed.

Vereen was arrested Tuesday afternoon at her Black Oak Hollow Road home, near Powder Springs. She was charged with 13 misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty and booked into the Cobb jail, records show.

Vereen was released from jail Wednesday after posting $30,000 bond, according to jail records.

Cobb County Animal Services was also investigating the case.
