An 18-year-old man shot by Cobb County police at the end of an overnight SWAT standoff has died, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said.

About 11:13 p.m. Sunday, Cobb police responded to an armed burglary alarm at a Marathon gas station in the 6400 block of Mableton Parkway, GBI spokeswoman Nelly Miles said Monday afternoon in an emailed statement.

Demetrius Dorsey barricaded himself inside the store and held two employees at gunpoint, the GBI said.

SWAT officers and crisis negotiators were called to the scene. The standoff ended shortly after midnight, when a Cobb police officer shot Dorsey, Miles said.

He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he later died.

The hostages were not injured during the incident, but were checked by medical personnel on the scene and released. No officers were hurt.

The Cobb medical examiner will perform an autopsy and the GBI will conduct an investigation to determine what happened during the robbery and shooting, Miles said.
