A Cobb County mother is charged with felony cruelty to children after police say she failed to get medical help for her severely burned 2-year-old daughter.
Kimberly Grable is accused of neglecting to properly treat the burns, using only an over-the-counter cream.
Police said the girl suffered “visible burns covering the majority of her back” sometime between April 6 and April 14.
According to the arrest warrant, Grable wasn't able to tell investigators how the toddler was burned. At first, Grable said the girl turned on the hot water when Grable wasn’t watching. Later, she said the burns happened while washing the girl’s hair, but no burns were visible on her scalp, the warrant states.
The warrant does not elaborate on how the girl was discovered and does not name her because of privacy laws. The 2-year-old was treated in a burn unit about a week after she was burned.
A second woman who lives in the apartment, Elizabeth Riggins, faces a reckless conduct charge in connection with the incident.
Riggins was charged because she allegedly knew about the burns and helped change the 2-year-old’s bandages, but she never sought medical help, the warrant states.
Grable remained at the Cobb County jail on a $10,000 bond.
