A man was shot in the leg by a Cobb County police officer about 11 a.m. Sunday, police said.

Cobb police spokesman Sgt. Dana Pierce said the shooting happened at 6289 Allen Road in Mableton after a report of suspicious activity.

Georgia Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Nelly Miles said officers responded to a 911 call about a suspicious vehicle near Nelly Brook Drive and learned the vehicle was stolen.

One of the people in the car ran from police and an officer fired at him, striking him in the leg. The man who was shot was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in stable condition.

Names had not been released by 4 p.m.

When the GBI completes its investigation, the case will be turned over to the Cobb County District Attorney's Office, Miles said.
