A Marietta taxi driver is accused of firing his gun after two customers left him about $70 short during a recent cab ride.

Gunther Eduardo Farfan, 50, drove two people from Sandtown Road in Marietta to an apartment complex on Riverside Parkway in Austell early Nov. 3 — a distance of about 12 miles.

When they arrived, however, one of the passengers told Farfan he didn’t have enough money to cover his $100 fare, Cobb County arrest warrants show. Farfan drove the man to a nearby ATM, at which point both passengers left $30 on the back seat, got out of the cab and ran, police said.

Farfan later admitted grabbing his 9 mm Glock handgun and firing a single shot into the air, but said he only did that to get his passengers to stop running, arrest warrants show.

One passenger told Cobb police he didn’t have enough money to cover the $100 fare because his driver “ran the meter up driving out of the way,” authorities said.

Farfan was arrested later that morning on one misdemeanor count of reckless conduct, jail records show. A black handgun taken by police at the time had 16 bullets loaded inside the 17-round magazine, officers wrote.

Farfan was released that evening after posting a $2,970 bond.
