Authorities are searching for a man who investigators said initiated a shootout with an off-duty police officer outside a downtown Atlanta nightclub.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating the incident, which occurred about 2:24 a.m. Thursday outside La Vie Hookah Bar Bistro on Luckie Street.

“Evidence was located at the scene indicating that more than one weapon was discharged,” GBI spokeswoman Nelly Miles said.

The Atlanta Police Department officer was working security at La Vie when a fight broke out inside the club and spilled outside, Miles said.

“A subject from the club discharged a firearm and was shot at by a uniformed off-duty APD officer,” Miles said. “The subject fled the scene and has not been located.”

The officer was not injured in the shooting.

“There is no confirmation that the subject was struck when shot at by the officer,” Miles said.
