A 20-year-old mother is facing felony child cruelty charges after Clayton County police say they found her 10-month-old daughter with cigarette burns, bruises to her face, scars on her body and an “intentionally removed” toenail.

Police said Selena Rios left the child with a friend on Tara Boulevard on Saturday, saying she didn’t want the child anymore, according to Channel 2 Action News.

The friend called police.

Clayton police Maj. Kevin Roberts said Rios is being held without bond and her other three children are in state custody. The 10-month-old is in the hospital.

Her sister, Isabella Rios, told Channel 2 she’d like to get custody of all four children and that Rios is getting a “bad rap.

“My sister did not abandon her baby there.”
