A Jonesboro duo suspected of robbing at least three Family Dollar stores was arrested Wednesday evening after a Clayton County deputy spotted one of the men running down Tara Boulevard in a ski mask while carrying a cash register, authorities said.

The deputy followed the man to an adjacent shopping center and watched him get into an SUV just as dispatchers advised that the nearby store had just been robbed at gunpoint, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

The deputy drew his gun and held the alleged robbery suspect and getaway driver until backup arrived to arrest the men, authorities said.

The man who was running with the cash register was identified as 31-year-old Deandre Carr and the suspected getaway driver was identified as Stephen Boyle, 55.

After the men were in custody, detectives were able to link them to at least two other Family Dollar robberies, police said.

Carr faces one count each of armed robbery and aggravated assault, while Boyle is charged with one count of armed robbery, Clayton jail records show. Both are being held without bond.
