An Ellenwood man accused of holding up a sporting goods store was arrested Tuesday afternoon while waiting to leave the scene in an Uber, police said.

Clayton County police arrested 21-year-old Dominic Lestagez on armed robbery charges after he allegedly robbed a Hibbett Sports in broad daylight.

Officers were dispatched to the store along Anvil Block Road about 2:30 p.m. After speaking with witnesses, it was determined a man wearing all black entered the store, pulled out a handgun and demanded cash from the register, investigators said Wednesday in a news release.

He then took took about $900, left the store and ran toward some woods near Bouldercrest Road, police said.

An officer spotted a man matching the suspect’s description and arrested him. Police said Lestagez, who summoned an Uber to leave the scene, flagged down the ride-share driver when the officer noticed him.

Lestagez was arrested and officers recovered $900 in cash as well as the firearm investigators believe was brandished during the robbery.

He was charged with one count each of armed robbery, aggravated assault, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and theft by receiving stolen property. Lestagez remains held at the Clayton County Jail without bond, records show.

The clerk was the only person inside the store on Macon Street in McDonough when the incident happened. Luckily, he was not injured.
