A stepfather and mother are in the Clayton County jail after an alleged beating of a 4-year-old led to his death, court records show.

Dontavious Carter, 28, of Atlanta, and Shronda Parks, 31, of College Park, were charged with child cruelty last week, jail records show. Their son, Dedrick Alford, died at a hospital.

According to media reports, Carter allegedly beat the boy and Parks did nothing to stop it. Police gave few details about what happened.

Their next court date is May 4.

No other details were released about the case.
