The teenager who was charged with the shooting death of a 6-year-old boy was arrested Thursday after a pursuit near I-20, the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office said.

Authorities from three agencies spotted Meshon Williams, 17, in the Candler Road area, spokesman Cynthia Williams said.

During the pursuit, Meshon Williams jumped from his car and ran west along the interstate, Cynthia Williams said. Investigators pursued him on foot and found him hiding in underbrush.

He was taken into custody without incident. DeKalb police and the Georgia State Patrol also were involved.

Williams was charged with murder in connection with the death of Z’Mari Mitchell, who was shot Saturday and died Wednesday from his injuries.

Authorities said the teen fired 31 shots into a house in the 3500 block of Sweetgum Lane in Decatur. The incident came as Williams and others were driving away from the house after a dispute with the residents over a social media post.

Mitchell, who was inside the house at the time, was hit by the gunfire.

Williams was initially charged with aggravated assault, which was upgraded to murder when Mitchell died.
