Police said the couple were followed by the men and that the male victim exchanged gunfire, injuring them.

Harris remains in the hospital, according to jail records. Banks was booked into the DeKalb County jail.

The couple were unharmed.

Police earlier said three suspects were involved in the attempted theft, but confirmed that was not the case Monday.

No other details were released.
