When a Barnesville man stopped his pickup truck to investigate a “check engine” light Tuesday, two men carjacked him, the Macon Telegraph reported.

The men, who pulled up in a red Honda, initially acted as if they wanted to help, asking if everything was OK. Then one of the men pushed the barrel of a handgun into the 58-year-old’s throat and demanded his money, the newspaper reported.

After the gunman took the man’s watch, a ring, a necklace and wallet with more than $200 cash, the other attacker thought the driver of the pickup truck was a police officer.

He shouted to the gunman, “That (expletive) is a cop!”

The driver of the Honda told the gunman to shoot and kill the man.

“Please don’t shoot me! I swear I am not a cop,” the man begged. “You can have everything. I have children! Please don’t kill me!”

Though the gunman cocked his weapon and held it to the man’s head, he didn’t shoot.

He gathered the stolen possessions and stole the truck.
