Police in Canton have arrested a woman seven months after she was involved in an accident that killed a pedestrian.

Christi Hinkley, 64, turned herself in after warrants were issued for her arrest Tuesday. She is facing felony charges of first-degree homicide by vehicle and hit-and-run resulting in death in the Nov. 20 crash that killed 58-year-old Sebastian Gregorio-Diego, according to police.

The Canton man was attempting to cross Riverstone Parkway that evening when he was hit by an SUV. He died at the scene, Canton police spokesman Officer Pacer Cordry said.

Police later identified Hinkley, who is also from Canton, as the SUV’s driver.

Cordry said Wednesday the charges were the result of an ongoing investigation. There was no one factor why they were delayed several months, he said.

Investigators spoke with witnesses and looked over the autopsy and traffic reports before deciding on charges, he said.

Hinkley posted a $10,000 bond and was released Tuesday from the Cherokee jail, according to the sheriff’s office.
