A woman was shot and killed outside a southwest Atlanta apartment complex during a shootout Monday evening, Atlanta police said.

Occupants in two cars were involved in the shootout outside the Summerdale Commons on Old Hapeville Road when the woman, who was sitting in a separate car, was shot in the chest, police Officer Lukasz Sajdak said.

The woman, identified by the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s office as Gloria Star-Armor, 59, of Ellenwood, was taken to the hospital alert and conscious. She later died from her wounds.

Officers found both cars in the shootout and one person was detained, Sajdak said.

The investigation is ongoing.
