A woman was shot early Saturday when two men opened fire at a southeast Atlanta gas station, police said.

Officers were dispatched to the Exxon on Jonesboro Road about 3:45 a.m. There, they discovered a woman who had been shot outside the store.

“It appears the victim was an innocent bystander and not the target of the shooting,” Atlanta police spokeswoman Officer TaSheena Brown said.

Both gunmen and the person they were shooting at fled the scene before police arrived, authorities said. Investigators believe the suspects may have left the gas station on foot since their disabled vehicle was abandoned near the crime scene, Brown said.

The injured woman was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in critical condition.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact Atlanta police.
