Atlanta police said a woman whose foot was stuck under a CSX train was freed before they arrived.

Police and Atlanta Fire and Rescue were called to the scene on Alabama Street near Underground Atlanta, Officer Donald Hannah told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

“Preliminary reports stated that she was trapped, per the call notes. Once officers arrived she was not,” Hannah said.

The train was headed to Nashville when it hit a woman on the railroad tracks about 5 p.m., CSX spokesman Rob Doolittle said in an emailed statement to the AJC. The woman was not at a public crossing when she was hit.

She was taken to the hospital with injuries. No other details were released on the accident.

Doolittle said the train consisted of two locomotives with 27 loaded rail cars of mixed freight and 37 empty rail cars. The train resumed its route after 6:30 p.m.

The accident comes during the week of National Rails Safety Week when pedestrians are reminded about the dangers of being on or near railroad tracks, Doolittle said.

“CSX appreciates the assistance of Atlanta Police today, and our thoughts are with those impacted by this incident,” Doolittle said. “We urge everyone to cross the tracks only at designated public crossings and always obey warning signs and signals. Always assume a train could come at any time, from any direction, and look both ways before crossing.”
