A former University of Georgia offensive lineman was arrested at an Athens Walmart after he allegedly bagged extra items in a self-checkout line, police said.
Dyshon Sims was arrested Thursday at the store’s Lexington Road location. According to police, a Walmart security officer saw Sims place about $130 worth of household items into his shopping bag, but he only paid for the $50 worth of items he actually scanned.
Sims was charged with shoplifting, Athens-Clarke County police spokesman Epifanio Rodriguez said.
Sims came to UGA from Lowndes High School in Valdosta in 2014. He played in 11 games in 2017, making four starts at right guard, according to UGA Sports. It was his senior season and his last on the team due to eligibility.
The incident at Walmart was caught on the store’s security cameras, Rodriguez said. Sims was booked into the county jail Thursday.
