A man was shot and killed at a northwest Atlanta house party Monday night, hours after he was released from jail, Channel 2 Action News reported.

The victim, identified by the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s office as 25-year-old Lawrence Roberts Jr. of Atlanta, was dead when officers arrived around 10 p.m. to the home in the 1800 block of Newman Place. He was shot in the head, Atlanta police spokesman Officer Jarius Daugherty said.

The alleged shooter, 20-year-old Tahli Williams, stayed on scene and was taken into custody without incident.  He was arrested on a charge of murder and taken to the Fulton County Jail, according to police.

“It appears that the involved parties were familiar with one another but at this time, the motive is unknown,” Daugherty said in a statement.

Roberts’ mother, Kathy Jackson, told Channel 2 from the scene her son had just come home from a stint in jail Monday morning.

“My son told me he was going across the street,” she said. “They was having a party over there and he was coming back. But apparently that didn’t happen.”

The shooting remains under investigation.
