A father was shot and killed by his son Monday afternoon at their home, DeKalb County police spokeswoman Shiera Campbell confirmed.

DeKalb officials got a call around 2:30 p.m. about a shooting on the 7000 block of Union Grove Road in Lithonia, Campbell said. Police have not identified a motive in the shooting.

Campbell said the son, 31, is “mentally challenged.”

The father, 64, was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he later died.

Campbell said the son is in custody.

“This is an ongoing investigation and charges will be pending,” she said.

The names have not been released.
