Atlanta police are investigating a shootout near a Bankhead nightclub that injured a driver and left a car riddled with bullets.

The shooting occurred about 4 a.m. Tuesday near Club Crucial on Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway, Atlanta police said.

An officer was monitoring the crowd at the club when he saw an exchange of gunfire between a white Dodge Town and Country minivan and a red Dodge Challenger, Atlanta police Capt. Andrew Senzer said.

The driver of the Challenger was hit in the buttocks and taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in stable condition, police said. His injuries were not life-threatening.

Investigators recovered security footage that led them to a gun from the scene.

Surveillance video showed someone going behind a building near the shooting scene.

“So that is a positive development,” Senzer said. “And hopefully we’ll be able to pull some evidence from that firearm that will point us in the direction of one of the shooters.”

Police towed the Challenger from the area.

“At this point, we don’t have a lot of information about the occupants or the motive for the exchange of gunfire,” Senzer said.

Police said the shooting does not appear to be connected to the club, but security at the club witnessed the incident.
