Pedestrian dies after being hit by teen driver in Gainesville

A man walking along a Gainesville road was fatally injured Thursday night when he was hit by a 17-year-old driver, police said.

Gainesville police believe the man, who was not identified, stepped into the roadway in the area of E.E. Butler Parkway and College Avenue before he was hit by a Toyota Camry. Officers were called to respond about 8:45 p.m.

The pedestrian was rushed to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, where he died. No charges are expected against the 17-year-old driver, police spokesman Sgt. Justin Martin said.

The accident remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Gainesville police at 770-534-5252.
