A man was shot after he aimed a gun at two men — including one who was breaking up a fight — outside an apartment complex early Friday, Atlanta police said.
The man was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in stable condition, Atlanta police Sgt. John Chafee said. The shooting occurred about 10:50 a.m. in the 2400 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.
“The preliminary investigation indicates (a man) was attempting to break up a physical altercation between several individuals when the suspect exited his apartment, observed the altercation and retrieved a handgun,” Chafee said in a statement.
The suspect was identified as 22-year-old Demarquis Gist. He allegedly aimed his gun at the men, but police did not say if he fired a shot.
“The (man) then produced his own handgun and fired several times, striking (Gist),” Chafee said.
Gist faces two counts of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. The other men were not injured.
No details were released about what led to the fight.
It’s the second shooting in recent weeks at the Enclave at Webster Park apartments, Channel 2 Action News reported.
