One man is dead and another is charged with murder after an overnight shooting at an apartment complex, DeKalb County authorities said.

Artagious Clarke, 40, was found shot to death on the back porch of a unit at the The Enclave Apartments in the 3900 block of Covington Highway, according to DeKalb police spokesman Sgt. J.D. Spencer.

The man accused of killing him, 27-year-old Steven Carter, was found with a gunshot wound to the leg at a Texaco gas station near the complex, Spencer said.

The shooting happened shortly before 10 p.m. Monday, Spencer said. The incident started as a drug transaction and turned into an armed robbery, he said.

At some point during the altercation, Carter and Clarke shot at each other, Spencer said.

Carter was taken to a local hospital and was booked into the DeKalb County Jail upon his release. He is charged with felony murder, armed robbery and willful obstruction of law enforcement officers.
