After a nearly 10-hour search by multiple law enforcement agencies, an inmate who escaped from the Floyd County courthouse about noon Monday was captured.

Dustin Cotton, 26, was caught by officials using infrared cameras. The captured Cotton near the Etowah River about 10 p.m., according to the Rome News-Tribune.

He ran from the courthouse and left his jail-issued orange shirt and leg shackles for police to find nearby, Rome police Lt. Joseph Costolnick said.

After searching in Rome earlier, a witness told police a man who resembled Cotton was near the river.
