A 30-year-old South Georgia man faces murder and child cruelty charges after a 5-month-old died, the GBI said.

Matthew Lucas Bryant was arrested Friday, two days after the infant died in Bryan County, the agency said in a news release. Richmond Hill police asked the GBI to assist in the investigation.

An autopsy revealed the infant died from severe head trauma, the release said. The relationship between Bryant and the baby was not provided.

Bryant was booked into the Bryan County Jail without incident, the release said. No other information was released. The sheriff’s office told AJC.com that Bryant’s mug shot will be available Monday.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the GBI at 912-871-1121 or Richmond Hill police at 912-756-5645.

Richmond Hill is about 20 miles southwest of Savannah and 250 miles southeast of downtown Atlanta.
