A 30-year-old man was shot and killed on a downtown street Monday afternoon as he attempted to run from an SUV, Atlanta police told AJC.com.
Police found the man in the 100 block of Pine Street, Atlanta police Sgt. John Chafee said. The man was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, but he later died from his injuries, police said.
Chafee said the man was standing on the sidewalk on Pine Street when a red Mercedes SUV drove by, did a U-turn and pulled up beside the victim.
“It appears the victim and occupants of the vehicle engaged in conversation,” Chafee said. “At some point, the victim began to run from the vehicle and a shot was fired from the vehicle, striking the victim.”
The SUV then left the scene.
Authorities have not said if the victim knew the people in the SUV. The man’s name was not released.
Homicide investigators are working to identify suspects in the case, Chafee said.
